How to Verify an Internship Certificate (and Why Your College Will Ask)
By K. Boopathikumar, CEO & Founder · 10 October 2026 · 5 min read
Fake and purchased internship certificates are common enough that many colleges and recruiters now verify them. If you're getting an internship certificate, make sure it can stand up to that check. If you're a placement officer, here's how to check one.
What a verifiable certificate has
- A unique certificate number that belongs to one person only.
- A way to look that number up: a public verification page, a QR code, or both.
- Details that match: name, domain or role, and dates.
- A status: valid, or invalid if it was withdrawn.
How to verify one
- Scan the QR code on the certificate with any phone camera; it should open the issuer's own website, not a third-party page.
- Or open the issuer's verification page and type the certificate number.
- Compare the name, domain and dates shown with the printed certificate.
- Check the web address: it should be the company's real domain.
Offer letters can be verified too
A well-run internship issues a numbered offer letter at the start and a certificate at the end. Both should verify. An offer letter that verifies shows the internship was arranged before it began, not created afterwards.
