Abstract

Yas is an open-source Blockchain & Cloud Computing project. YAS: Yet Another Shop, a sample microservices project in Java. YAS is a pet project aim to practice building a typical microservice application in Java. It is built using Java, Kubernetes, Spring Boot, Docker. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the MIT License, making it a useful reference for students building a Blockchain & Cloud Computing mini project or final-year project.

1. Introduction

YAS is a pet project aim to practice building a typical microservice application in Java

2. Objective

YAS: Yet Another Shop, a sample microservices project in Java

This project demonstrates how Java, Kubernetes, Spring Boot can be applied to a real-world Blockchain & Cloud Computing problem.

4. Technology Stack

JavaKubernetesSpring BootDocker
  • Spring Boot 4.0
  • Testcontainers
  • Keycloak
  • Elasticsearch
  • GitHub Actions
  • SonarCloud
  • OpenTelemetry
  • Grafana, Loki, Prometheus, Tempo

5. System Requirements

General requirements for this technology stack — check the README for exact versions.

  • JDK 11 or later
  • Maven / Gradle
  • IntelliJ IDEA, Eclipse or Android Studio
  • Git (to clone the repository)

6. Installation & Setup

git clone https://github.com/nashtech-garage/yas.git
cd yas
  1. Get the latest source code
  2. Add the following records to your host file:
  3. Open terminal of your choice, go to yas directory, run docker compose up, wait for all the containers up and running
  4. All the containers up and running then we start source connectors by run script, open any terminal window... go to the YAS root folder and type: ./start-source-connectors.sh
  5. Open your browser, now you can access the websites via http://storefront/; http://backoffice/ login with admin/password
127.0.0.1 identity
127.0.0.1 api.yas.local
127.0.0.1 pgadmin.yas.local
127.0.0.1 storefront
127.0.0.1 backoffice
127.0.0.1 loki
127.0.0.1 tempo
127.0.0.1 grafana
127.0.0.1 elasticsearch
127.0.0.1 kafka

Full setup instructions are in the project README.

7. Future Enhancements

Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.

  • Add a CI/CD pipeline with GitHub Actions
  • Deploy to a public test network or cloud free tier
  • Add monitoring and cost alerts

8. Viva / Review Questions

Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.

  1. Why does this problem need a blockchain or cloud-native design?
  2. Explain the smart contract / infrastructure components and how they interact.
  3. How are gas costs or cloud costs kept under control?
  4. How is the system secured (keys, IAM, access control)?
  5. How would the solution scale to many more users?

9. Source Code & License
