Abstract

Fevm Hardhat Kit is an open-source Blockchain & Cloud Computing project. A starter hardhat project for developing, deploying, and testing Solidity smart contracts on the FEVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine on Filecoin). A comprehensive TypeScript-based Hardhat development kit for building smart contracts on the Filecoin EVM (FEVM). This kit includes example contracts, deployment scripts with verification support on blockscout-filfox explorers, and interactive tasks for contract interaction. It is built using TypeScript, JavaScript, Solidity, Hardhat. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the MIT License, making it a useful reference for students building a Blockchain & Cloud Computing mini project or final-year project.

1. Introduction

A comprehensive TypeScript-based Hardhat development kit for building smart contracts on the Filecoin EVM (FEVM). This kit includes example contracts, deployment scripts with verification support on blockscout-filfox explorers, and interactive tasks for contract interaction.

This will clone the hardhat kit onto your computer, switch directories into the newly installed kit, and install the dependencies the kit needs to work.

2. Objective

A starter hardhat project for developing, deploying, and testing Solidity smart contracts on the FEVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine on Filecoin)

This project demonstrates how TypeScript, JavaScript, Solidity can be applied to a real-world Blockchain & Cloud Computing problem.

4. Technology Stack

5. System Requirements

General requirements for this technology stack — check the README for exact versions.

  • Node.js (LTS) and npm / yarn / pnpm
  • VS Code or any code editor
  • Node.js (LTS) and npm
  • A modern web browser
  • Node.js and npm
  • Hardhat / Truffle / Remix IDE
  • Git (to clone the repository)

6. Installation & Setup

git clone https://github.com/filecoin-project/fevm-hardhat-kit.git
cd fevm-hardhat-kit
  1. Get a private key from a wallet provider such as Metamask.
  2. Create your environment file:
  3. Replace your private key in the .env file:
  4. SimpleCoin: A basic ERC20-style token contract demonstrating simple Solidity functionality
  5. FilecoinMarketConsumer: A contract that demonstrates how to use Filecoin APIs to access storage deal data
  6. DealRewarder: A bounty contract for incentivizing data storage on Filecoin
  7. DealClient: A contract that creates Filecoin storage deals within Solidity smart contracts
cp .env.example .env
PRIVATE_KEY=your_private_key_here
yarn hardhat get-address
yarn hardhat deploy

Full setup instructions are in the project README.

7. Future Enhancements

Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.

  • Add a CI/CD pipeline with GitHub Actions
  • Deploy to a public test network or cloud free tier
  • Add monitoring and cost alerts

8. Viva / Review Questions

Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.

  1. Why does this problem need a blockchain or cloud-native design?
  2. Explain the smart contract / infrastructure components and how they interact.
  3. How are gas costs or cloud costs kept under control?
  4. How is the system secured (keys, IAM, access control)?
  5. How would the solution scale to many more users?

9. Source Code & License
