Clusternet

[CNCF Sandbox Project] Managing your Kubernetes clusters (including public, private, edge, etc.) as easily as visiting the Internet

Blockchain & Cloud ComputingGoApache-2.0

Abstract

Clusternet is an open-source Blockchain & Cloud Computing project. [CNCF Sandbox Project] Managing your Kubernetes clusters (including public, private, edge, etc.) as easily as visiting the Internet. Clusternet (Cluster Internet) is an open source add-on that helps you manage thousands of millions of Kubernetes clusters as easily as visiting the Internet. No matter the clusters are running on public cloud, private cloud, hybrid cloud, or at the edge, Clusternet helps setup network tunnels in a configurable way and lets you manage/visit them all as if they were running locally. It is built using Go, Kubernetes. Key capabilities include: Kubernetes Multi-Cluster Management and Governance; managing Kubernetes clusters running in cloud providers, such as AWS, Google Cloud, Tencent Cloud, Alibaba Cloud,; managing on-premise Kubernetes clusters. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the Apache License 2.0, making it a useful reference for students building a Blockchain & Cloud Computing mini project or final-year project.

1. Introduction

This also helps eliminate the need to juggle different management tools for each cluster.

Clusternet also provides a Kubernetes-styled API, where you can continue using the Kubernetes way, such as KubeConfig, to visit a certain managed Kubernetes cluster, or a Kubernetes service.

Clusternet is multiple platforms supported now, including linux/amd64, linux/arm64, linux/ppc64le, linux/s390x , linux/386 , and linux/arm;

2. Objective

[CNCF Sandbox Project] Managing your Kubernetes clusters (including public, private, edge, etc.) as easily as visiting the Internet

This project demonstrates how Go, Kubernetes can be applied to a real-world Blockchain & Cloud Computing problem.

3. Key Features / Modules

  • Kubernetes Multi-Cluster Management and Governance
  • managing Kubernetes clusters running in cloud providers, such as AWS, Google Cloud, Tencent Cloud, Alibaba Cloud,
  • managing on-premise Kubernetes clusters
  • managing any Certified Kubernetes Distributions, such
  • managing Kubernetes clusters running at the edge
  • automatically discovering and registering clusters created by cluster-api
  • parent cluster can also register itself as a child cluster to run workloads

4. Technology Stack

GoKubernetes

5. System Requirements

General requirements for this technology stack — check the README for exact versions.

  • Go 1.20 or later
  • Git (to clone the repository)

6. Installation & Setup

git clone https://github.com/clusternet/clusternet.git
cd clusternet

Full setup instructions are in the project README.

7. Future Enhancements

Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.

  • Add a CI/CD pipeline with GitHub Actions
  • Deploy to a public test network or cloud free tier
  • Add monitoring and cost alerts

8. Viva / Review Questions

Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.

  1. Why does this problem need a blockchain or cloud-native design?
  2. Explain the smart contract / infrastructure components and how they interact.
  3. How are gas costs or cloud costs kept under control?
  4. How is the system secured (keys, IAM, access control)?
  5. How would the solution scale to many more users?

9. Source Code & License

This project is developed by clusternet and published on GitHub under the Apache License 2.0. Please follow the license terms and credit the original author when you use or modify this code.
