Abstract
Crane is an open-source Blockchain & Cloud Computing project. Crane is a FinOps Platform for Cloud Resource Analytics and Economics in Kubernetes clusters. The goal is not only to help users to manage cloud cost easier but also ensure the quality of applications. It is built using Go, Kubernetes. Key capabilities include: Provides a collection of exporters which collect cloud resource pricing and billing data and ship to your monitoring system like Prometheus; Multi-dimensional cost insight, optimization evaluates are supported. Support Multi-cloud Pricing through Cloud Provider。. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the Apache License 2.0, making it a useful reference for students building a Blockchain & Cloud Computing mini project or final-year project.
1. Introduction
Crane is a FinOps Platform for Cloud Resource Analytics and Economics in Kubernetes clusters. The goal is not only help user to manage cloud cost easier but also ensure the quality of applications.
Crane is a FinOps Certified Solution project of the FinOps Foundation.
Provide a pluggable framework for analytics and give recommendation for cloud resources, support out-of-box recommenders: Workload Resources/Replicas, Idle Resources. learn more.
2. Objective
Crane is a FinOps Platform for Cloud Resource Analytics and Economics in Kubernetes clusters. The goal is not only to help users to manage cloud cost easier but also ensure the quality of applications.
This project demonstrates how Go, Kubernetes can be applied to a real-world Blockchain & Cloud Computing problem.
3. Key Features / Modules
- Provides a collection of exporters which collect cloud resource pricing and billing data and ship to your monitoring system like Prometheus.
- Multi-dimensional cost insight, optimization evaluates are supported. Support Multi-cloud Pricing through Cloud Provider。
4. Technology Stack
5. System Requirements
General requirements for this technology stack — check the README for exact versions.
- Go 1.20 or later
- Git (to clone the repository)
6. Installation & Setup

Full setup instructions are in the project README.
7. Future Enhancements
Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.
- Add a CI/CD pipeline with GitHub Actions
- Deploy to a public test network or cloud free tier
- Add monitoring and cost alerts
8. Viva / Review Questions
Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.
- Why does this problem need a blockchain or cloud-native design?
- Explain the smart contract / infrastructure components and how they interact.
- How are gas costs or cloud costs kept under control?
- How is the system secured (keys, IAM, access control)?
- How would the solution scale to many more users?
