Placement preparation

Crack MNC interviews, step by step

The rounds most IT companies run, what each one tests, and exactly how to prepare. Practise every round free in the portal.

  1. Round 1: Online assessment: aptitude

Quantitative, logical and verbal questions under time pressure. Most service MNCs (TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Accenture, Cognizant, Capgemini) filter here first.

    1. Learn each company's pattern: sections, time per section and negative marking.
    2. Practise 45 minutes daily: percentages, ratios, time and work, speed and distance, probability, puzzles, reading comprehension.
    3. Time yourself: aim for about 1 minute per question and skip, then return.
    4. Review every wrong answer and write the shortcut in a notebook.
  2. Round 2: Online assessment: coding

Usually 2-3 problems in 45-90 minutes, judged on hidden test cases.

    1. Pick one language (Python, Java or C++) and stay with it.
    2. Master arrays, strings, hashing, two pointers, sliding window, sorting, recursion, stacks and queues.
    3. Solve 2 easy and 1 medium problem daily; read the editorial when stuck for 30 minutes.
    4. Always test edge cases: empty input, one element, duplicates, negatives and large numbers.
  3. Round 3: Technical interview

CS fundamentals, your projects and live coding. Interviewers check understanding, not memorised lines.

    1. Revise OOP, DBMS (normalisation, ACID, SQL joins), operating systems (process vs thread, deadlock) and networks (TCP/UDP, what happens when you open a URL).
    2. Prepare a 2-minute explanation of each project: problem, your role, stack, one challenge, result.
    3. Code aloud: restate the problem, give brute force, optimise, write clean code, dry-run, state complexity.
    4. Read the interview cards in the Arena: each has a step-by-step model answer.
  4. Round 4: Managerial round

How you work with people, handle pressure and make decisions.

    1. Prepare 4 STAR stories: conflict, failure, leadership, tight deadline.
    2. Show ownership: what you did, what you learned, what you would do differently.
    3. Ask one thoughtful question about the team or role at the end.
  5. Round 5: HR round

Communication, attitude, relocation, shifts and bond terms.

    1. Practise "Tell me about yourself" in 90 seconds: present, past, future.
    2. Answer strengths and weaknesses with real examples.
    3. Know the company: services, recent news and the role you applied for.
    4. Be honest about relocation, shifts and the service agreement.
  6. Round 6: Resume and profile

Recruiters scan for 30 seconds. Make every line count.

    1. One page: skills, 2-3 projects with results, internship, certifications.
    2. Link GitHub (with READMEs) and a LinkedIn profile that matches your resume.
    3. Add verifiable certificates: employers can check Training Trains numbers on the Verify page.

A 30-day plan

  • Days 1-10: aptitude basics daily + arrays, strings and hashing problems + OOP revision.
  • Days 11-20: timed aptitude sets + stacks, queues, trees and sliding window + DBMS and SQL.
  • Days 21-27: full mock tests every other day + OS and networks + project explanations aloud.
  • Days 28-30: mock interview with a mentor, fix weak areas, polish resume and LinkedIn.
