Groups and ledgers

Organise accounts so reports come out right.

๐Ÿ“– Key ideas

  1. A ledger is an account, like Cash, HDFC Bank, Rent or Ravi Traders.
  2. Every ledger belongs to a group, like Sundry Debtors or Indirect Expenses.
  3. Customers go under Sundry Debtors; suppliers under Sundry Creditors.
  4. Cash and Profit & Loss ledgers are created by default.
  5. Tax ledgers (CGST, SGST, IGST) go under Duties & Taxes.
๐Ÿ’ก Real-life example: Groups are the chapters of a book; ledgers are the pages inside each chapter.
