Mechanics and kinematics

Understand how robots move.

๐Ÿ“– Key ideas

  1. Degrees of freedom (DoF) count independent movements.
  2. Joints: revolute (rotate), prismatic (slide).
  3. Forward kinematics: joint angles โ†’ end position.
  4. Inverse kinematics: desired position โ†’ joint angles.
  5. Wheeled robots: differential drive, omni wheels, Ackermann steering.
๐Ÿ’ก Real-life example: Inverse kinematics is working out how to bend your shoulder, elbow and wrist to reach a cup.
