What is Node.js?

Node.js runs JavaScript on the server, outside the browser.

📖 Key ideas

  1. Node.js uses Chrome's V8 engine to run JavaScript on servers and laptops.
  2. It is non-blocking and event-driven: great for many simultaneous connections.
  3. Run a file with node app.js.
  4. npm installs packages; package.json lists them.
  5. Used for APIs, real-time apps, tools and scripts.
💡 Real-life example: Node is a single waiter who takes many orders without waiting at each table for the food to cook.
