Common network attacks

Recognise attacks against networks.

📖 Key ideas

  1. Reconnaissance: scanning to find hosts and open ports.
  2. Man-in-the-middle (MITM): intercepting traffic, e.g. ARP spoofing.
  3. DoS/DDoS: flooding to make services unavailable.
  4. Spoofing: faking IP, MAC or email sender.
  5. Brute force: guessing passwords repeatedly.
💡 Real-life example: A MITM attacker is a postman who secretly opens and reads letters before delivering them.
