Subnetting a network
Split a network into smaller subnets.
📖 Key ideas
- Borrow host bits to create subnets.
- Number of subnets = 2^(borrowed bits).
- Example: 192.168.10.0/24 into 4 subnets → /26 (borrow 2 bits).
- Each /26 has 64 addresses, 62 usable.
- Plan subnets for departments, floors or VLANs.
💡 Real-life example: Subnetting is dividing a big plot into equal smaller plots, each with its own gate.
