Embedded C programming

Write efficient C for microcontrollers.

๐Ÿ“– Key ideas

  1. Embedded C works close to hardware registers.
  2. Bitwise operators set, clear and toggle bits: |=, &= ~, ^=.
  3. volatile tells the compiler a value can change unexpectedly (hardware, ISRs).
  4. Fixed-width types: uint8_t, uint16_t, uint32_t.
  5. Avoid dynamic memory allocation in small systems.
๐Ÿ’ก Real-life example: Bit manipulation is flipping individual light switches on a big switchboard.
Bitwise operatorOperates on individual bits
volatilePrevents compiler optimising away hardware reads
uint8_tUnsigned 8-bit integer
