Registries and sharing images

Registries store and share images, like GitHub for containers.

📖 Key ideas

  1. A registry stores images: Docker Hub, GitHub Container Registry, AWS ECR, Google Artifact Registry.
  2. Image names include registry/user/name:tag.
  3. docker push uploads an image; docker pull downloads it.
  4. docker login authenticates to a private registry.
  5. Use version tags such as 1.2.0, not only latest.
💡 Real-life example: A registry is a library: you return (push) a book and others borrow (pull) it.
