TLS and secure communication

See how HTTPS combines cryptography.

📖 Key ideas

  1. TLS secures web traffic (HTTPS), email and APIs.
  2. Handshake: verify the server certificate and agree on keys.
  3. Then data is encrypted with fast symmetric keys.
  4. TLS 1.3 is faster and removes weak options.
  5. Forward secrecy protects past sessions if keys later leak.
💡 Real-life example: TLS is meeting a stranger: check their ID (certificate), agree on a secret language (keys), then talk privately.
