Digital signatures

Prove who sent a message and that it is unchanged.

📖 Key ideas

  1. A digital signature is created with the sender's private key.
  2. Anyone verifies it with the sender's public key.
  3. Signatures give authenticity, integrity and non-repudiation.
  4. Usually the hash of the message is signed.
  5. Used in software updates, e-sign (Aadhaar eSign), documents and blockchains.
💡 Real-life example: A digital signature is a wax seal only you can make, which anyone can check.
