Transactions and ACID
Keep data correct with transactions.
📖 Key ideas
- A transaction is a unit of work: all or nothing.
- ACID: Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, Durability.
- States: active, partially committed, committed, failed, aborted.
- COMMIT saves; ROLLBACK undoes.
- Serializability ensures concurrent results match some serial order.
💡 Real-life example: A transaction is a bank transfer: debit and credit happen together, or not at all.
AtomicityAll or nothing
IsolationTransactions don't interfere
DurabilityCommitted data survives crashes
SerializabilityEquivalent to a serial schedule
