Your job when AI writes code
AI writes quickly. You decide what is right, and you answer for it.
AI tools can write code in seconds, so writing code is no longer the whole job. Companies still need someone who knows what should be built, can tell whether the result is right, and takes responsibility when it goes live. That person can be you.
| AI is usually good at | People must still do |
|---|---|
First drafts of common code | Deciding what the business really needs |
Explaining unfamiliar code | Judging whether that explanation is true |
Writing many similar test cases | Thinking of what could go wrong |
Suggesting several approaches | Choosing one and answering for it |
The one rule
Never send work you cannot explain. If a senior asks why a line is there and your answer is "AI wrote it", you have not finished the job. Use AI as a fast helper, and keep the thinking and the responsibility for yourself.
- Understand the problem before you ask for code.
- Read everything AI gives you.
- Run it and test it yourself.
- Be ready to explain every line.
