Importance of Firewall in Internet world!!!

Firewall

A firewall is a network security system that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules. It acts as a barrier between a private internal network and the public Internet Firewalls can help protect your computer and network from unauthorized access, viruses, and other types of malware. They can also help prevent data theft and other types of cyber attacks

  • Software Firewall
  • Hardware Firewall

1. Software Firewall:

Software firewall is a program that runs on a computer or server and monitors incoming and outgoing network traffic. It can be customized by the user to meet their needs. Software firewalls typically run on the host, providing granular control of the applications allowed on the host. They can also be part of an integrated security suite that monitors the host for threats. Software firewalls embody the same firewall technology as hardware firewalls (also known as next-generation firewalls or NGFWs). They offer multiple deployment options to match the needs of hybrid/multi-cloud environments and modern cloud applications. They can be deployed into any virtualized network or cloud environment.

2. Hardware Firewall:

Hardware firewall is a physical device that is deployed to enforce a network boundary. All network links crossing this boundary pass through this firewall, which enables it to perform inspection of both inbound and outbound network traffic and enforce access controls and other security policies. Hardware firewalls are designed to protect an organization’s network boundary by being deployed in inline mode. This means that the physical network cables over which traffic can cross this boundary are connected to ports on the “inside” and “outside” of the firewall. When traffic enters a network firewall, it is subjected to security inspection and may have multiple different controls applied to it.
