Abstract
Smart Parking System With Number Plate Recognition Using ESP32 CAM is an open-source Internet of Things (IoT) project. USing Number plate recognition for a SMart Parking system Project. Welcome to the Smart Parking System project! This system leverages the ESP32-CAM to create an intelligent parking management solution that integrates image recognition, web server communication, and real-time updates. It is built using C++. Key capabilities include: WiFi Connectivity: Seamlessly connects to your network for remote communication; Secure HTTPS: Ensures secure communication with your server; Camera Functionality: Captures images of vehicle number plates for recognition. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the MIT License, making it a useful reference for students building an Internet of Things (IoT) mini project or final-year project.
1. Introduction
Welcome to the Smart Parking System project! This system leverages the ESP32-CAM to create an intelligent parking management solution that integrates image recognition, web server communication, and real-time updates.
2. Objective
USing Number plate recognition for a SMart Parking system Project.
This project demonstrates how C++ can be applied to a real-world Internet of Things (IoT) problem.
3. Key Features / Modules
- WiFi Connectivity: Seamlessly connects to your network for remote communication.
- Secure HTTPS: Ensures secure communication with your server.
- Camera Functionality: Captures images of vehicle number plates for recognition.
- Real-Time Clock: Accurate timekeeping using NTP for Indian Standard Time (IST).
- Web Interface: Live web page displaying real-time status, parking information, and captured images.
- Image Upload: Automatically uploads captured images to a remote server.
- Dynamic Updates: Reflects real-time parking status and availability.
- Barrier Control: Operates the parking barrier using a servo motor based on vehicle entry and exit.
- Vehicle Detection: Uses sensors to detect vehicles and manage parking spaces.
- Parking History: Logs valid number plates with timestamps for historical reference.
4. Technology Stack
5. System Requirements
General requirements for this technology stack — check the README for exact versions.
- Arduino IDE / PlatformIO or a C++ compiler (g++)
- Target board (e.g. Arduino, ESP32) where applicable
- Git (to clone the repository)
6. Installation & Setup
git clone https://github.com/Circuit-Digest/Smart-Parking-System-with-Number-Plate-Recognition-using-ESP32-CAM.git
cd Smart-Parking-System-with-Number-Plate-Recognition-using-ESP32-CAM- Configure WiFi: Update the ssid and password with your network credentials.
- Server Details: Replace serverName, serverPath, and apiKey with your server information.
- Compile and Upload: Upload the code to your ESP32-CAM using the Arduino IDE.
Full setup instructions are in the project README.
7. Future Enhancements
Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.
- Add a mobile dashboard using Blynk or Firebase
- Store readings in a cloud database for history charts
- Add alerts via SMS / Telegram when thresholds are crossed
8. Viva / Review Questions
Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.
- Which microcontroller / board and sensors are used and why?
- How does the device send data (Wi-Fi, MQTT, HTTP, Bluetooth)?
- Where is the sensor data stored and visualised?
- How is power consumption managed?
- How would you secure the device and its communication?
