Abstract
IOT Smart Farming is an open-source Internet of Things (IoT) project. π±πΎπ Smart Farm (Iceburg) is a smart project that allows to interact and improve the management of agricultural farms. Welcome to the IOT Smart Farming System! This innovative solution is built on IoT technologies, empowering growers and farmers to enhance productivity and reduce waste. It is built using Java, Arduino. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the Apache License 2.0, making it a useful reference for students building an Internet of Things (IoT) mini project or final-year project.
1. Introduction
Welcome to the IOT Smart Farming System! This innovative solution is built on IoT technologies, empowering growers and farmers to enhance productivity and reduce waste. The system efficiently monitors crop fields using various sensors such as light, humidity, temperature, soil moisture, crop health, etc. It also automates the irrigation process, ensuring that crops receive optimal care and attention.

2. Objective
π±πΎπ Smart Farm (Iceburg) is a smart project that allows to interact and improve the management of agricultural farms.
This project demonstrates how Java, Arduino can be applied to a real-world Internet of Things (IoT) problem.
4. Technology Stack
5. System Requirements
General requirements for this technology stack β check the README for exact versions.
- JDK 11 or later
- Maven / Gradle
- IntelliJ IDEA, Eclipse or Android Studio
- Git (to clone the repository)
6. Installation & Setup
git clone https://github.com/Deshan555/IOT-Smart_Farming.git
cd IOT-Smart_Farming- Download the Project Files
- Download the project source files as a zip file or clone the project using the git clone command.
- Prepare the Database
- Install a MySQL client on your computer and import the 'data store.sql' file into your MySQL client. You can also use an online MySQL service for this purpose.
- Install JDK (Java Development Kit)
- The entire project is written in Java, so you need to install JDK before using it.
- Optionally Use the .exe Installer
- If you prefer a simpler installation process, you can use the .exe installer. It will automatically install Java along with the application.
Full setup instructions are in the project README.
7. Future Enhancements
Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.
- Add a mobile dashboard using Blynk or Firebase
- Store readings in a cloud database for history charts
- Add alerts via SMS / Telegram when thresholds are crossed
8. Viva / Review Questions
Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.
- Which microcontroller / board and sensors are used and why?
- How does the device send data (Wi-Fi, MQTT, HTTP, Bluetooth)?
- Where is the sensor data stored and visualised?
- How is power consumption managed?
- How would you secure the device and its communication?
9. Source Code & License
