Client Sdk ESP32

LiveKit Client SDK for ESP32 series chips. Easily enable real-time audio, video, and data for embedded projects.

Internet of Things (IoT)CApache-2.0

Abstract

Client Sdk ESP32 is an open-source Internet of Things (IoT) project. LiveKit Client SDK for ESP32 series chips. Easily enable real-time audio, video, and data for embedded projects. Use this SDK to add realtime video, audio and data features to your ESP32 projects. By connecting to LiveKit Cloud or a self-hosted server, you can quickly build applications such as multi-modal AI, live streaming, or video calls with minimal setup. It is built using C, ESP32. Key capabilities include: Supported chips: ESP32-S3 and ESP32-P4; Bidirectional audio: Opus encoding, acoustic echo cancellation (AEC); Video publishing: H.264 encoding, subscribing coming soon. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the Apache License 2.0, making it a useful reference for students building an Internet of Things (IoT) mini project or final-year project.

1. Introduction

Use this SDK to add realtime video, audio and data features to your ESP32 projects. By connecting to LiveKit Cloud or a self-hosted server, you can quickly build applications such as multi-modal AI, live streaming, or video calls with minimal setup.

2. Objective

LiveKit Client SDK for ESP32 series chips. Easily enable real-time audio, video, and data for embedded projects.

This project demonstrates how C, ESP32 can be applied to a real-world Internet of Things (IoT) problem.

3. Key Features / Modules

  • Supported chips: ESP32-S3 and ESP32-P4
  • Bidirectional audio: Opus encoding, acoustic echo cancellation (AEC)
  • Video publishing: H.264 encoding, subscribing coming soon
  • AI Agents: interact with agents in the cloud built with LiveKit Agents
  • Real-time data: data streams, data packets, remote method calls (RPC)

4. Technology Stack

CESP32

5. System Requirements

General requirements for this technology stack — check the README for exact versions.

  • Arduino IDE / PlatformIO or a C compiler (gcc)
  • Target board where applicable
  • Git (to clone the repository)

6. Installation & Setup

git clone https://github.com/livekit/client-sdk-esp32.git
cd client-sdk-esp32
idf.py add-dependency "livekit/livekit=0.3.11"

Full setup instructions are in the project README.

7. Future Enhancements

Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.

  • Add a mobile dashboard using Blynk or Firebase
  • Store readings in a cloud database for history charts
  • Add alerts via SMS / Telegram when thresholds are crossed

8. Viva / Review Questions

Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.

  1. Which microcontroller / board and sensors are used and why?
  2. How does the device send data (Wi-Fi, MQTT, HTTP, Bluetooth)?
  3. Where is the sensor data stored and visualised?
  4. How is power consumption managed?
  5. How would you secure the device and its communication?

9. Source Code & License

This project is developed by livekit and published on GitHub under the Apache License 2.0. Please follow the license terms and credit the original author when you use or modify this code.
