With a user-friendly interface, this system offers features like book search, borrow, return, and renewal...etc. A web app for managing all the activities of a library like managing members and book transactions, built on MERN Stack. It is built using JavaScript, MongoDB, Node.js, React. Key capabilities include: Admin Login and Student Login; Admin and Student Dashboard; Adding Library Members. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the MIT License, making it a useful reference for students building a Full Stack Web Development mini project or final-year project.

1. Introduction

A web app for managing all the activities of a library like managing members and book transactions, built on MERN Stack

2. Objective

Library Management System built with the MERN (MongoDB, Express, React, and Node.js) stack. It allows librarians and library staff to manage books, borrowers, and borrowing activities efficiently. With a user-friendly interface, this system offers features like book search, borrow, return, and renewal...etc

This project demonstrates how JavaScript, MongoDB, Node.js can be applied to a real-world Full Stack Web Development problem.

3. Key Features / Modules

  • Admin Login and Student Login
  • Admin and Student Dashboard
  • Adding Library Members
  • Adding Books with Available Copies
  • Issue and Return Transaction tracking of a Book by the Member
  • Reserving a book for specific dates
  • Showing the Achievements, Event Gallery

  8. Run yarn to install dependencies

Full setup instructions are in the project README.

7. Future Enhancements

Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.

  • Add role-based access control
  • Deploy on a VPS or cPanel hosting with a custom domain
  • Add automated tests and a CI pipeline

8. Viva / Review Questions

Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.

  1. Explain the frontend, backend and database layers of this application.
  2. How is user authentication and authorisation implemented?
  3. Describe the main database tables / collections and their relationships.
  4. Which REST APIs or routes are exposed and what do they return?
  5. How would you deploy this application to production?
