Abstract
React Native Sensitive Info is an open-source Mobile App Development project. π React Native secure storage, rebuilt with Nitro Modules β‘οΈ Biometric-ready, StrongBox-aware, and metadata-rich for modern mobile apps. Hardware-backed secure storage for React Native. Secrets are encrypted with AES-GCM, gated by biometrics or device credentials, and stored in the system Keychain (iOS) or Android Keystore behind a Promise-based API and React hooks. It is built using TypeScript, Android, React Native. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the MIT License, making it a useful reference for students building a Mobile App Development mini project or final-year project.
1. Introduction
Hardware-backed secure storage for React Native. Secrets are encrypted with AES-GCM, gated by biometrics or device credentials, and stored in the system Keychain (iOS) or Android Keystore behind a Promise-based API and React hooks.
2. Objective
π React Native secure storage, rebuilt with Nitro Modules β‘οΈ Biometric-ready, StrongBox-aware, and metadata-rich for modern mobile apps
This project demonstrates how TypeScript, Android, React Native can be applied to a real-world Mobile App Development problem.
4. Technology Stack
5. System Requirements
General requirements for this technology stack β check the README for exact versions.
- Node.js (LTS) and npm / yarn / pnpm
- VS Code or any code editor
- Git (to clone the repository)
6. Installation & Setup
git clone https://github.com/mCodex/react-native-sensitive-info.git
cd react-native-sensitive-infonpm install react-native-sensitive-info react-native-nitro-modules
# yarn add react-native-sensitive-info react-native-nitro-modules
# pnpm add react-native-sensitive-info react-native-nitro-modulesimport { setItem, getItem, deleteItem } from 'react-native-sensitive-info'
// Write β uses the strongest available security policy by default
await setItem('session-token', 'abc123', { service: 'auth' })
// Read β returns value + metadata
const item = await getItem('session-token', { service: 'auth' })
console.log(item?.value) // 'abc123'
console.log(item?.metadata.securityLevel) // e.g. 'secureEnclave'
// Remove
await deleteItem('session-token', { service: 'auth' })Full setup instructions are in the project README.
7. Future Enhancements
Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.
- Add push notifications with Firebase Cloud Messaging
- Add offline support with local caching
- Publish an internal test build on the Play Store
8. Viva / Review Questions
Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.
- Which framework is used and why (native vs cross-platform)?
- How is app state managed across screens?
- Where is the data stored β locally, Firebase or a REST backend?
- How are permissions (camera, location, storage) handled?
- How would you publish this app to the Play Store / App Store?
9. Source Code & License
