Mobile App DevelopmentC++MIT

Abstract

React Native Godot is an open-source Mobile App Development project. React Native Godot - Embed Godot Engine in React Native apps. React Native Godot allows embedding the Godot Engine into React Native applications. It is built using C++, Android, React Native. Key capabilities include: Supports Android and iOS, built on LibGodot; Stable implementation serving millions of users in Born's applications; Supports starting, stopping and restarting the Godot Engine. (docs). The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the MIT License, making it a useful reference for students building a Mobile App Development mini project or final-year project.

1. Introduction

React Native Godot allows embedding the Godot Engine into React Native applications.

Born React Native Godot was created by Born and developed by Migeran, in close collaboration between the two teams.

The example app shows the main features of React Native Godot in action.

2. Objective

React Native Godot - Embed Godot Engine in React Native apps

This project demonstrates how C++, Android, React Native can be applied to a real-world Mobile App Development problem.

3. Key Features / Modules

  • Supports Android and iOS, built on LibGodot.
  • Stable implementation serving millions of users in Born's applications.
  • Supports starting, stopping and restarting the Godot Engine. (docs)
  • When restarting, the engine can be reconfigured, so a different Godot app may be loaded each time. (docs)
  • It is also possible to pause and resume the running Godot instance. (docs)
  • Godot is running on a separate thread, so it does not affect the main thread of the application nor the React Native JavaScript thread. (docs)
  • The Godot main window and any subwindows created by the Godot app may be embedded into the React Native application either on the same screen, or on separate screens (see example app).

4. Technology Stack

5. System Requirements

General requirements for this technology stack — check the README for exact versions.

  • Arduino IDE / PlatformIO or a C++ compiler (g++)
  • Target board (e.g. Arduino, ESP32) where applicable
  • Git (to clone the repository)

6. Installation & Setup

git clone https://github.com/borndotcom/react-native-godot.git
cd react-native-godot
asdf install

Full setup instructions are in the project README.

7. Future Enhancements

Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.

  • Add push notifications with Firebase Cloud Messaging
  • Add offline support with local caching
  • Publish an internal test build on the Play Store

8. Viva / Review Questions

Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.

  1. Which framework is used and why (native vs cross-platform)?
  2. How is app state managed across screens?
  3. Where is the data stored — locally, Firebase or a REST backend?
  4. How are permissions (camera, location, storage) handled?
  5. How would you publish this app to the Play Store / App Store?

9. Source Code & License

This project is developed by borndotcom and published on GitHub under the MIT License. Please follow the license terms and credit the original author when you use or modify this code.
