Abstract

Purrcrypt is an open-source Cybersecurity & Ethical Hacking project. A fur-ociously secure encryption tool that encodes your secrets as adorable cat and dog sounds, using real elliptic curve cryptography with a playful disguise. PurrCrypt is what happens when a very serious cryptographer gets distracted by cat videos for 48 hours straight! It's a super-strong encryption tool that hides your secrets in the most adorable way possible - by turning them into kitty and puppy speak! It is built using Rust. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the MIT License, making it a useful reference for students building a Cybersecurity & Ethical Hacking mini project or final-year project.

1. Introduction

PurrCrypt is what happens when a very serious cryptographer gets distracted by cat videos for 48 hours straight! It's a super-strong encryption tool that hides your secrets in the most adorable way possible - by turning them into kitty and puppy speak!

Under the fluffy exterior, PurrCrypt uses the same elliptic curve cryptography (meow-thematics?) as Bitcoin. But instead of boring code, your secret messages look like they were written by a cat walking across your keyboard... ON PURPOSE!

The purr-fect way to keep your secrets fur-ever safe, straight from the meow-th of your computer to your fur-ends' paws!

2. Objective

A fur-ociously secure encryption tool that encodes your secrets as adorable cat and dog sounds, using real elliptic curve cryptography with a playful disguise.

This project demonstrates how Rust can be applied to a real-world Cybersecurity & Ethical Hacking problem.

4. Technology Stack

Rust

5. System Requirements

General requirements for this technology stack — check the README for exact versions.

  • Rust toolchain (rustup / cargo)
  • Git (to clone the repository)

6. Installation & Setup

git clone https://github.com/vxfemboy/purrcrypt.git
cd purrcrypt
  1. Generate a keypair (AKA make your secret paw print):
  2. Import your friend's key (teaching your pet who's friendly):
  3. List your keys (checking who's in your pack/clowder):
  4. Choose your pet personality:
# Clone this ball of yarn
git clone https://github.com/vxfemboy/purrcrypt.git

# Pounce into the directory
cd purrcrypt

# Install it like you'd install a new cat tree
cargo install --path .
purr genkey fluffy
purr import-key --public ~/Downloads/mr_whiskers_key.pub
purr list-keys

Full setup instructions are in the project README.

7. Future Enhancements

Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.

  • Add logging and alert notifications (email / Telegram)
  • Write a threat model document for the tool
  • Package it with Docker for safe lab testing

8. Viva / Review Questions

Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.

  1. Which threat or attack does this project defend against?
  2. What detection or protection technique is used and what are its limits?
  3. How are false positives and false negatives handled?
  4. Which cryptographic algorithms or security standards are involved?
  5. What legal and ethical rules apply when testing a tool like this?

9. Source Code & License
