Abstract
Django Two Factor Auth is an open-source Cybersecurity & Ethical Hacking project. Complete Two-Factor Authentication for Django providing the easiest integration into most Django projects. Complete Two-Factor Authentication for Django. Built on top of the one-time password framework django-otp_ and Django's built-in authentication framework django.contrib.auth for providing the easiest integration into most Django projects. It is built using Python, Django. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the MIT License, making it a useful reference for students building a Cybersecurity & Ethical Hacking mini project or final-year project.
1. Introduction
Complete Two-Factor Authentication for Django. Built on top of the one-time password framework django-otp_ and Django's built-in authentication framework django.contrib.auth for providing the easiest integration into most Django projects. Inspired by the user experience of Google's Two-Step Authentication, allowing users to authenticate through call, text messages (SMS), by using a token generator app like Google Authenticator or a YubiKey_ hardware token generator (optional).
Test drive this app through the example app_. It demos most features except the Twilio integration. The example also includes django-user-sessions_ for providing Django sessions with a foreign key to the user. Although the package is optional, it improves account security control over django.contrib.sessions.
Compatible with supported Django and Python versions. At the moment of writing that includes 5.2 and 6.0 on Python 3.11 to 3.14. Documentation is available at readthedocs.io_.
2. Objective
Complete Two-Factor Authentication for Django providing the easiest integration into most Django projects.
This project demonstrates how Python, Django can be applied to a real-world Cybersecurity & Ethical Hacking problem.

7. Future Enhancements
Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.
- Add logging and alert notifications (email / Telegram)
- Write a threat model document for the tool
- Package it with Docker for safe lab testing
8. Viva / Review Questions
Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.
- Which threat or attack does this project defend against?
- What detection or protection technique is used and what are its limits?
- How are false positives and false negatives handled?
- Which cryptographic algorithms or security standards are involved?
- What legal and ethical rules apply when testing a tool like this?
