Abstract

OP Manager is an open-source Internet of Things (IoT) project. Ultimate File Manager for Upload/ Backup TE OP1/OPZ patches and projects on the go. Common issues from the OP-1 users is that OP-1 doesn't support projects and the unit only allow certain amount of patches. I am currently developing a compact hardware tool that can easily swap and backup all the user patches and projects. It is built using Python, Raspberry Pi. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the MIT License, making it a useful reference for students building an Internet of Things (IoT) mini project or final-year project.

1. Introduction

Common issues from the OP-1 users is that OP-1 doesn't support projects and the unit only allow certain amount of patches. I am currently developing a compact hardware tool that can easily swap and backup all the user patches and projects. This unit can benifet for users who don't want to connect their OP-1 to their computer. Or performers who wants to switch patches, and projects on the go. And allows the user to store all their OP-1 files in one place and store as much patches as whatever the SD card's capacity is available. The device will be low cost and compact.

2. Objective

Ultimate File Manager for Upload/ Backup TE OP1/OPZ patches and projects on the go.

This project demonstrates how Python, Raspberry Pi can be applied to a real-world Internet of Things (IoT) problem.

4. Technology Stack

PythonRaspberry Pi
  • Raspberry Pi Zero W + SD card (16GB reccomended)
  • Uses 128x64 OLED Panel, a D pad, and two buttons for controll
  • Uses OTG USB to Communicate with OP-1

5. System Requirements

General requirements for this technology stack — check the README for exact versions.

  • Python 3.8 or later
  • pip / virtualenv for dependencies
  • VS Code, PyCharm or Jupyter Notebook
  • Git (to clone the repository)

6. Installation & Setup

git clone https://github.com/adwuard/OP_Manager.git
cd OP_Manager

Full setup instructions are in the project README.

7. Future Enhancements

Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.

  • Add a mobile dashboard using Blynk or Firebase
  • Store readings in a cloud database for history charts
  • Add alerts via SMS / Telegram when thresholds are crossed

8. Viva / Review Questions

Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.

  1. Which microcontroller / board and sensors are used and why?
  2. How does the device send data (Wi-Fi, MQTT, HTTP, Bluetooth)?
  3. Where is the sensor data stored and visualised?
  4. How is power consumption managed?
  5. How would you secure the device and its communication?

9. Source Code & License
