Abstract

Nwn Core Framework is an open-source Full Stack Web Development project. An extendable event management system for Neverwinter Nights. This project is a framework for managing a Neverwinter Nights module. At the most basic, it is a set of scripts to hook all events in a module. It is built using NWScript. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the MIT License, making it a useful reference for students building a Full Stack Web Development mini project or final-year project.

1. Introduction

This project is a framework for managing a Neverwinter Nights module. At the most basic, it is a set of scripts to hook all events in a module. Scripts can then subscribe to the hooks and be run when the event is triggered. This allows the module builder to modularize script systems instead of combining scripts.

This system is in alpha. Things will change and will break. You have been warned.

2. Objective

An extendable event management system for Neverwinter Nights

This project demonstrates how NWScript can be applied to a real-world Full Stack Web Development problem.

4. Technology Stack

NWScript

5. System Requirements

General requirements for this technology stack — check the README for exact versions.

  • See the project README for exact requirements

6. Installation & Setup

git clone https://github.com/squattingmonk/nwn-core-framework.git
cd nwn-core-framework
  1. modules/core_framework.mod: a demo module showing the framework in action
  2. erf/core_framework.erf: an installable erf for use in new or existing
  3. Import core_framework.erf into your module.
  4. Read and customize core_c_config.nss. If you make changes, be sure to
  5. Set the module's OnModuleLoad event script to hook_nwn.nss. If you set
  6. Set other event scripts to hook_nwn.nss as you wish. You can do this
git clone https://github.com/squattingmonk/nwn-core-framework.git
cd nwn-core-framework
git submodule update --init
nasher install demo erf

Full setup instructions are in the project README.

7. Future Enhancements

Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.

  • Add role-based access control
  • Deploy on a VPS or cPanel hosting with a custom domain
  • Add automated tests and a CI pipeline

8. Viva / Review Questions

Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.

  1. Explain the frontend, backend and database layers of this application.
  2. How is user authentication and authorisation implemented?
  3. Describe the main database tables / collections and their relationships.
  4. Which REST APIs or routes are exposed and what do they return?
  5. How would you deploy this application to production?
