Timy Messenger is an open-source Mobile App Development project. Timy - open source mobile app for groups to communicate and organize themselves. Built with flutter. The concept for Timy was created and developed by kaalita and philippmoeser. The initial version is a MVP messaging app focusing on organising events among groups. It is built using Dart, Flutter, Kotlin, Firebase, Android. Key capabilities include: Multiple groups (similar to Teams in Slack); Multiple open or private channels within groups; Sharing of photos and photo collections. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the Apache License 2.0, making it a useful reference for students building a Mobile App Development mini project or final-year project.

6. Installation & Setup

git clone https://github.com/janoodleFTW/timy-messenger.git
cd timy-messenger
  1. Select your project in console.firebase.google.com.
  2. Navigate to Authentication
  3. Select Sign-in methods and activate Email / Password.
  4. In firebase navigate to Authentication and select Users.
  5. Then Add user.
  6. Select the database you’ve just created.
  7. Create collection and name it groups.
  8. Add your first group with the following properties:
$ firebase deploy --only functions

Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.

  • Add push notifications with Firebase Cloud Messaging
  • Add offline support with local caching
  • Publish an internal test build on the Play Store
