Tooth Paste

Secure Wireless Data-Transfer over BLE and USB for Passwords, Pentesting and Media Control.

Cybersecurity & Ethical HackingTypeScriptAGPL-3.0

Abstract

Tooth Paste is an open-source Cybersecurity & Ethical Hacking project. Secure Wireless Data-Transfer over BLE and USB for Passwords, Pentesting and Media Control. ToothPaste allows a user to transmit AES-256 encrypted keyboard and mouse commands to any USB-compatible device wirelessly, without the need for specialized drivers or extensive set-up using WEB-BLE, a Cryptographic IC and an ESP32-S3. It is built using TypeScript, ESP32. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0, making it a useful reference for students building a Cybersecurity & Ethical Hacking mini project or final-year project.

1. Introduction

ToothPaste allows a user to transmit AES-256 encrypted keyboard and mouse commands to any USB-compatible device wirelessly, without the need for specialized drivers or extensive set-up using WEB-BLE, a Cryptographic IC and an ESP32-S3.

This means existing solutions like KDE Connect are non-starters since, at the very least, they require both devices to run a compatible operating system and allow installing third-party software.

The obvious answer then, is to use an interface system that is universally supported - USB. Specifically the USB Human Interface Device (HID) standard. Almost every USB-host compatible device supports using a keyboard as means of controlling it and, because this is presumed to be a direct extension of a user, it is implicitly trusted (keyboards don't have passwords because how would you enter the password ).

2. Objective

Secure Wireless Data-Transfer over BLE and USB for Passwords, Pentesting and Media Control.

This project demonstrates how TypeScript, ESP32 can be applied to a real-world Cybersecurity & Ethical Hacking problem.

7. Future Enhancements

Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.

  • Add logging and alert notifications (email / Telegram)
  • Write a threat model document for the tool
  • Package it with Docker for safe lab testing

8. Viva / Review Questions

Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.

  1. Which threat or attack does this project defend against?
  2. What detection or protection technique is used and what are its limits?
  3. How are false positives and false negatives handled?
  4. Which cryptographic algorithms or security standards are involved?
  5. What legal and ethical rules apply when testing a tool like this?
