Abstract

Password Manager is an open-source Cybersecurity & Ethical Hacking project. Self-hosted Password Manager based on Laravel 10 + PHP 8 + MySQL 8. Gestor de Contraseñas basado en Laravel 10 + PHP 8 + MySQL 8. This application allows complete password management for multiple types of services (web, ssh, phones, wifi, etc ...). It is built using PHP, Laravel. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the MIT License, making it a useful reference for students building a Cybersecurity & Ethical Hacking mini project or final-year project.

1. Introduction

This application allows complete password management for multiple types of services (web, ssh, phones, wifi, etc ...).

This project has an extension for Google Chrome that you can download at https://github.com/eusonlito/Password-Manager-Chrome

The data of each application is stored encrypted in the database.

2. Objective

Self-hosted Password Manager based on Laravel 10 + PHP 8 + MySQL 8. Gestor de Contraseñas basado en Laravel 10 + PHP 8 + MySQL 8.

This project demonstrates how PHP, Laravel can be applied to a real-world Cybersecurity & Ethical Hacking problem.

4. Technology Stack

5. System Requirements

General requirements for this technology stack — check the README for exact versions.

  • PHP 7.4+ with a web server (XAMPP / WAMP / LAMP)
  • MySQL / MariaDB
  • phpMyAdmin (optional)
  • Git (to clone the repository)

6. Installation & Setup

git clone https://github.com/eusonlito/Password-Manager.git
cd Password-Manager
  1. Create the database in MySQL.
  2. Clone the repository.
  3. Copy the .env.example file as .env and fill in the necessary variables.
  4. Install composer dependencies (remember that we always use the PHP 8.1 binary).
  5. Generate the application key. Remember to backup this key in a secure location (.env > APP_KEY).
  6. Regenerate the caches.
  7. Launch the initial migration.
  8. Launch the seeder.
git clone https://github.com/eusonlito/Password-Manager.git
cp .env.example .env
./composer install --no-dev --optimize-autoloader --classmap-authoritative --ansi
php artisan key:generate

Full setup instructions are in the project README.

7. Future Enhancements

Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.

  • Add logging and alert notifications (email / Telegram)
  • Write a threat model document for the tool
  • Package it with Docker for safe lab testing

8. Viva / Review Questions

Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.

  1. Which threat or attack does this project defend against?
  2. What detection or protection technique is used and what are its limits?
  3. How are false positives and false negatives handled?
  4. Which cryptographic algorithms or security standards are involved?
  5. What legal and ethical rules apply when testing a tool like this?

9. Source Code & License
