Abstract
Encryption App is an open-source Cybersecurity & Ethical Hacking project. Encrypt.tn - free file encryption & decryption. The Encryption and Decryption App is a free and user-friendly web application that allows you to encrypt and decrypt files using a password of your choice. Whether you need to protect sensitive data or secure your personal files, this app provides a convenient solution. It is built using HTML, JavaScript. Key capabilities include: File Encryption: Select a file or drag-and-drop it onto the app's interface, then enter a password to encrypt it securely; File Decryption: Decrypt encrypted files by providing the correct password; User-friendly Interface: The app is built with HTML, CSS, Bootstrap 5, and JavaScript, ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, making it a useful reference for students building a Cybersecurity & Ethical Hacking mini project or final-year project.
1. Introduction
The Encryption and Decryption App is a free and user-friendly web application that allows you to encrypt and decrypt files using a password of your choice. Whether you need to protect sensitive data or secure your personal files, this app provides a convenient solution.
Although the final site is different from my initial design in Figma, I'm still satisfied by the result. Check out the design on Behance here.
2. Objective
Encrypt.tn - free file encryption & decryption.
This project demonstrates how HTML, JavaScript can be applied to a real-world Cybersecurity & Ethical Hacking problem.
3. Key Features / Modules
- File Encryption: Select a file or drag-and-drop it onto the app's interface, then enter a password to encrypt it securely.
- File Decryption: Decrypt encrypted files by providing the correct password.
- User-friendly Interface: The app is built with HTML, CSS, Bootstrap 5, and JavaScript, ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience.
- Built-in Crypto Functions: Leveraging JavaScript's built-in cryptographic functions, the app ensures robust encryption and decryption processes.
4. Technology Stack
- Bootstrap 5
- JavaScript
- JavaScript Crypto Functions
5. System Requirements
General requirements for this technology stack — check the README for exact versions.
- A modern web browser
- VS Code or any code editor
- Node.js (LTS) and npm
- Git (to clone the repository)
6. Installation & Setup
git clone https://github.com/Ashref-dev/EncryptionApp.git
cd EncryptionAppFull setup instructions are in the project README.
7. Future Enhancements
Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.
- Add logging and alert notifications (email / Telegram)
- Write a threat model document for the tool
- Package it with Docker for safe lab testing
8. Viva / Review Questions
Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.
- Which threat or attack does this project defend against?
- What detection or protection technique is used and what are its limits?
- How are false positives and false negatives handled?
- Which cryptographic algorithms or security standards are involved?
- What legal and ethical rules apply when testing a tool like this?
9. Source Code & License
