Abstract
Commander is an open-source Cybersecurity & Ethical Hacking project. Keeper Commander is a python-based CLI and SDK interface to the Keeper Security platform. Provides administrative controls, reporting, import/export and vault management. Keeper Commander is a command-line and terminal UI interface to Keeper® Password Manager and KeeperPAM. Commander can be used to access and control your Keeper vault, perform administrative actions (managing users, teams, roles, SSO, privileged access resources, device approvals, data import/export), launch sessions, rotate passwords, integrate with developer tools, eliminate hardcoded passwords, run as a REST service and more. It is built using Python. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the MIT License, making it a useful reference for students building a Cybersecurity & Ethical Hacking mini project or final-year project.
1. Introduction
Keeper Commander is an open source project with contributions from Keeper's engineering team, customers and partners.
Keeper Security is the creator of KeeperPAM - the zero-trust and zero-knowledge privileged access management ("PAM") platform for securing and managing access to your critical infrastructure.
2. Objective
Keeper Commander is a python-based CLI and SDK interface to the Keeper Security platform. Provides administrative controls, reporting, import/export and vault management.
This project demonstrates how Python can be applied to a real-world Cybersecurity & Ethical Hacking problem.
4. Technology Stack
5. System Requirements
General requirements for this technology stack — check the README for exact versions.
- Python 3.8 or later
- pip / virtualenv for dependencies
- VS Code, PyCharm or Jupyter Notebook
- Git (to clone the repository)
6. Installation & Setup
git clone https://github.com/Keeper-Security/Commander.git
cd CommanderFull setup instructions are in the project README.
7. Future Enhancements
Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.
- Add logging and alert notifications (email / Telegram)
- Write a threat model document for the tool
- Package it with Docker for safe lab testing
8. Viva / Review Questions
Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.
- Which threat or attack does this project defend against?
- What detection or protection technique is used and what are its limits?
- How are false positives and false negatives handled?
- Which cryptographic algorithms or security standards are involved?
- What legal and ethical rules apply when testing a tool like this?
