Abstract

Spring Cloud Open Service Broker is an open-source Blockchain & Cloud Computing project. Spring Cloud project for creating service brokers that conform to the Open Server Broker API specification. Spring Cloud Open Service Broker is a framework for building https://projects.spring.io/spring-boot/[Spring Boot] applications that implement the https://www.openservicebrokerapi.org/[Open Service Broker API]. Both https://docs.spring.io/spring-framework/reference/web/webflux.html[Spring WebFlux] and https://docs.spring.io/spring-framework/reference/web/webmvc.html[Spring MVC] web frameworks are supported in Spring Cloud Open Service Broker. It is built using Java, Kubernetes. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the Apache License 2.0, making it a useful reference for students building a Blockchain & Cloud Computing mini project or final-year project.

1. Introduction

Spring Cloud Open Service Broker is a framework for building https://projects.spring.io/spring-boot/[Spring Boot] applications that implement the https://www.openservicebrokerapi.org/[Open Service Broker API]. Both https://docs.spring.io/spring-framework/reference/web/webflux.html[Spring WebFlux] and https://docs.spring.io/spring-framework/reference/web/webmvc.html[Spring MVC] web frameworks are supported in Spring Cloud Open Service Broker.

The following table describes the version compatibility matrix for the various releases of Spring Cloud Open Service Broker. Please note that certain Spring Boot versions have reached https://spring.io/projects/spring-boot#support[end of support]. We recommend upgrading to a version of Spring Cloud Open Service Broker that supports a newer version of Spring Boot.

Spring Cloud is released under the non-restrictive Apache 2.0 license, and follows a very standard Github development process, using Github tracker for issues and merging pull requests into main. If you want to contribute even something trivial please do not hesitate, but follow the guidelines below.

2. Objective

Spring Cloud project for creating service brokers that conform to the Open Server Broker API specification

This project demonstrates how Java, Kubernetes can be applied to a real-world Blockchain & Cloud Computing problem.

4. Technology Stack

JavaKubernetes

5. System Requirements

General requirements for this technology stack — check the README for exact versions.

  • JDK 11 or later
  • Maven / Gradle
  • IntelliJ IDEA, Eclipse or Android Studio
  • Git (to clone the repository)

6. Installation & Setup

git clone https://github.com/spring-cloud/spring-cloud-open-service-broker.git
cd spring-cloud-open-service-broker

Full setup instructions are in the project README.

7. Future Enhancements

Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.

  • Add a CI/CD pipeline with GitHub Actions
  • Deploy to a public test network or cloud free tier
  • Add monitoring and cost alerts

8. Viva / Review Questions

Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.

  1. Why does this problem need a blockchain or cloud-native design?
  2. Explain the smart contract / infrastructure components and how they interact.
  3. How are gas costs or cloud costs kept under control?
  4. How is the system secured (keys, IAM, access control)?
  5. How would the solution scale to many more users?

9. Source Code & License

This project is developed by spring-cloud and published on GitHub under the Apache License 2.0. Please follow the license terms and credit the original author when you use or modify this code.
