Abstract
Extension is an open-source Blockchain & Cloud Computing project. Taho, the community owned and operated Web3 wallet. Taho is a community owned and operated Web3 wallet, built as a browser extension. It is built using TypeScript, Ethereum, Web3. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the GNU General Public License v3.0, making it a useful reference for students building a Blockchain & Cloud Computing mini project or final-year project.
1. Introduction
Taho is a community owned and operated Web3 wallet, built as a browser extension.
Today's Web3 landscape is dominated by a single wallet and a single infrastructure provider, both owned by a single conglomerate. These facts undermine the censorship resistance of Ethereum today... and they're also against Web3's spirit of community ownership.
2. Objective
Taho, the community owned and operated Web3 wallet.
This project demonstrates how TypeScript, Ethereum, Web3 can be applied to a real-world Blockchain & Cloud Computing problem.
4. Technology Stack
5. System Requirements
General requirements for this technology stack — check the README for exact versions.
- Node.js (LTS) and npm / yarn / pnpm
- VS Code or any code editor
- Git (to clone the repository)
6. Installation & Setup
git clone https://github.com/tahowallet/extension.git
cd extension- Firefox instructions
- Chrome, Brave, Edge, and Opera instructions
- Note that these instructions are for Chrome, but substituting
$ nvm use
$ nvm install
$ npm install -g yarn # if you don't have yarn globally installed
$ yarn install # install all dependencies; rerun with --ignore-scripts if
# scrypt node-gyp failures prevent the install from completing
$ yarn start # start a continuous webpack build that will auto-update with changes# On change, rebuild the firefox extension but not others.
$ yarn start --config-name firefox
# On change, rebuild the firefox and brave extensions but not others.
$ yarn start --config-name firefox --config-name brave
# On change, rebuild the chrome
$ yarn start --config-name chrome$ ./scripts/macos-setup.sh$ cd dev-utils/local-chain
$ yarn install
$ yarn startFull setup instructions are in the project README.
7. Future Enhancements
Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.
- Add a CI/CD pipeline with GitHub Actions
- Deploy to a public test network or cloud free tier
- Add monitoring and cost alerts
8. Viva / Review Questions
Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.
- Why does this problem need a blockchain or cloud-native design?
- Explain the smart contract / infrastructure components and how they interact.
- How are gas costs or cloud costs kept under control?
- How is the system secured (keys, IAM, access control)?
- How would the solution scale to many more users?
9. Source Code & License
