Abstract

Eth Vue is an open-source Blockchain & Cloud Computing project. This Truffle Box provides everything you need to quickly build Ethereum dApps that have authentication features with vue, including configuration for easy deployment to the Ropsten Network. It's also Gravatar-enabled. Connecting to a running Ganache blockchain network from Truffle is also possible -- for fast development and testing purposes. It is built using JavaScript, Vue.js, Ethereum, Truffle. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the GNU General Public License v3.0, making it a useful reference for students building a Blockchain & Cloud Computing mini project or final-year project.

1. Introduction

This Truffle Box provides everything you need to quickly build Ethereum dApps that have authentication features with Vue 3, including configuration for easy deployment to the Ropsten Network. It's also Gravatar-enabled. Connecting to a running Ganache blockchain network from Truffle is also possible -- for fast development and testing purposes. Built on Truffle 5, eth-vue uses vuex for state management, vuex-persist for local storage of app state, and vue-router for routing. Authentication functionalities are handled by Smart Contracts running on the Ethereum blockchain.

... module.exports = { ... networks: { development: { host: "localhost", port: 8545, // This is the conventional port. If you're using the Ganache Blockchain, change port value to the Ganache default port 7545. If you're using Truffle develop network, change port value to 9545 network_id: "", // Match any network id. You may need to replace with your network Id from: "", // Add your unlocked account within the double quotes gas: 4444444 } } }; Insert your unlocked account within the double-quotes of the from key

export const NETWORKS = { '1': 'Main Net', '2': 'Deprecated Morden test network', '3': 'Ropsten test network', '4': 'Rinkeby test network', '42': 'Kovan test network', '4447': 'Truffle Develop Network', '5777': 'Ganache Blockchain', '666': 'Daniel Private Blockchain' // This is a test private blockchain. You can change it to your own private blockchain if you have one. };

2. Objective

This project demonstrates how JavaScript, Vue.js, Ethereum can be applied to a real-world Blockchain & Cloud Computing problem.

5. System Requirements

General requirements for this technology stack — check the README for exact versions.

  • Node.js (LTS) and npm
  • A modern web browser
  • VS Code or any code editor
  • Git (to clone the repository)

6. Installation & Setup

git clone https://github.com/DOkwufulueze/eth-vue.git
cd eth-vue
  1. Install Truffle
  2. Compile the Contracts [remember to add the --network ropsten option if you didn't change the APPROVED_NETWORK_ID in src/util/constants.js from the default 3 to another id]
  3. Deploy the compiled contracts [remember to add the --network ropsten option if you didn't change the APPROVED_NETWORK_ID in src/util/constants.js from the default 3 to another id]

Full setup instructions are in the project README.

7. Future Enhancements

Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.

  • Add a CI/CD pipeline with GitHub Actions
  • Deploy to a public test network or cloud free tier
  • Add monitoring and cost alerts

8. Viva / Review Questions

Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.

  1. Why does this problem need a blockchain or cloud-native design?
  2. Explain the smart contract / infrastructure components and how they interact.
  3. How are gas costs or cloud costs kept under control?
  4. How is the system secured (keys, IAM, access control)?
  5. How would the solution scale to many more users?
