Abstract
Awsweeper is an open-source Blockchain & Cloud Computing project. A tool for cleaning your AWS account. AWSweeper is able to clean out over 290 resource types in your AWS account. Resources to be deleted can be filtered by their type, ID, tags, or creation date using regular expressions declared in a YAML file (see filter.yml as an example). It is built using Go, AWS, Terraform. Key capabilities include: Nothing will be deleted without your confirmation. AWSweeper always lists all resources first and then waits for; Using the -force flag (dangerous!), AWSweeper can in run an automated fashion without human interaction and approval,. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, making it a useful reference for students building a Blockchain & Cloud Computing mini project or final-year project.
1. Introduction
AWSweeper is able to clean out over 290 resource types in your AWS account. Resources to be deleted can be filtered by their type, ID, tags, or creation date using regular expressions declared in a YAML file (see filter.yml as an example).
your approval (also without the --dry-run flag). With the --dry-run flag, AWSweeper lists all resources and exits.
Not being fully there yet, but the goal is to support every AWS resource that is covered by Terraform (currently over 500) without adding or maintaining much code here.
2. Objective
A tool for cleaning your AWS account
This project demonstrates how Go, AWS, Terraform can be applied to a real-world Blockchain & Cloud Computing problem.
3. Key Features / Modules
- Nothing will be deleted without your confirmation. AWSweeper always lists all resources first and then waits for
- Using the -force flag (dangerous!), AWSweeper can in run an automated fashion without human interaction and approval,
4. Technology Stack
5. System Requirements
General requirements for this technology stack — check the README for exact versions.
- Go 1.20 or later
- Git (to clone the repository)
6. Installation & Setup
git clone https://github.com/jckuester/awsweeper.git
cd awsweeperFull setup instructions are in the project README.
7. Future Enhancements
Suggested extensions you can add to make this your own project.
- Add a CI/CD pipeline with GitHub Actions
- Deploy to a public test network or cloud free tier
- Add monitoring and cost alerts
8. Viva / Review Questions
Common questions examiners ask for projects in this domain.
- Why does this problem need a blockchain or cloud-native design?
- Explain the smart contract / infrastructure components and how they interact.
- How are gas costs or cloud costs kept under control?
- How is the system secured (keys, IAM, access control)?
- How would the solution scale to many more users?
9. Source Code & License
